Being a mom is surely one hell of a ride. For some people, it gets even harder when your baby starts to eat, I mean does that creature really eats now?? Well, worry not! I’ve been through all that and let me tell you, it’s not that hard to prepare food for your little one. I am one of those moms that can be considered as a poor cook, but when it comes to baby food I feel like I’m a world class chef.

At first, I mixed instant food with cooked food. For example, I mixed instant red rice baby food with carrot puree with chicken broth. The reason was to give my baby variation without wasting too much time preparing, but too bad it didn’t go well because my baby closed his mouth and got angry every time I fed him with this stuff.

Later on, I tried to cooked porridge and the veggies separately. First, I stir the white rice on and on and on until it became a porridge, while steamed the veggies. After they were all done, I blend it together. The result? Still, my baby didn’t like it and spit it out most of the times. This phase was the worst in my opinion, mainly because it took TOO MUCH time to serve it, and only to get the same rejection from my baby.

Knowing my pain, my mom finally gave me her ultimate tips, so this is actually her tips that I write here. She told me to mix all the ingredients together and cook it in pressure cooker. And what makes it so brilliant? Because it adopts the concept of cooking in a slow cooker without taking a long time and too much electricity, and yet the result of the cooking will be the same! All you have to do is only chop all the ingredients and add water, what a life, right? It only takes about 15 minutes to get your baby food ready, maybe longer if you still need a smoother texture, but it won’t take more than 30 minutes. Here’s one of my favorite recipe:

  • 1 baby carrot (you can chop it really small or just grate it if you are as lazy as me)
  • 150 grams kabocha pumpkin (cut into small blocks)
  • 1/2 tomato
  • 100 grams minced chicken or chicken fillet
  • 1 glass of white rice
  • A very very tiny bit of salt or unsalted butter for a healthier choice
  • 500ml water

And as I said before, the process is only to put it all together, wait until the pressure cooker makes noise, turn down the heat and wait for 10 minutes, and turn off the heat. If you want smoother texture, you can use your blender. This recipe is made for 4 times eating, so you can store it in refrigerator and heat it up with microwave. Pro tip: you can give your baby cereal for breakfast, so this food can lasts for 2 days and you can save even more time.

Lastly, serve it with love and tons of patience. Good luck!
